GOODREAD’S BOOK DESCRIPTION
The last time I saw Nevada Kane, I was seventeen and he was loading his things into the back of his truck, about to embark on a fourteen-hour drive to the only college that offered him a full ride to play basketball.
I told him I’d wait for him. He promised to do the same.
But life happened. I broke my promise long before he ever broke his. And not because I wanted to.
We never saw each other again …
Until ten years later when Nevada unexpectedly returned to our hometown after an abrupt retirement from his professional basketball career.
Suddenly he was everywhere, always staring through me with that brooding gaze, never returning my smiles or “hellos.”
Over the years, I’d heard that he’d changed. And that despite his multi-million dollar contracts and rampant success, life hadn’t been so kind to him.
He was a widower.
And a single father.
And rumor had it, he’d spent his last ten years trying to forget me, refusing to so much as breathe my name … hating me.
But just like a rebound, he’s back.
And I have to believe everything happens for a reason.
REVIEW
The book is split in two scenario, the past then the present lives of the characters. The young Yardley and Nevada is super inloved with each other. I really love the bond that they share in their younger days but an unfortunate event or should I say unexpected turn of events break them apart. Nevada is a year ahead of Yardley and he is good in basketball that a school from another state offered him a scholarship. Yardley push Nevada to get the scholarship because she doesn't want to hinder this opportunity for Nevada to be a famous athlete. They promised each other that even they are in long distance relationship they will make it work. They constantly text or call each other and Yardley will tell Nevada about the things that she was doing. Until Yardley met this transfer student guy who became her friend and the guy likes her. The guy has a secret that she told Yardley and its the reason why Yardley broke her promise to Nevada. Nevada gets a text from a friend back home telling him that Yardley is with a guy and they look like they are in relationship. Nevada was so broken hearted that he refuses to Yardley calls and text messages. Yardley is begging Nevada to just let her explain but Nevada didn't want to hear her explanation. Fast forward to the present 10 years later, Nevada has returned to his home town because He didn’t have a choice, his wife’s sudden death and having two children to raise makes him think that its time he came home to be near to his mother even though its 100% sure that he could run into Yardley again. Even if its 10 years ago Yardley still cannot move on after losing her one true love. When she heard that Nevada is going home to their town she was hoping for a 2nd chance and hoping to explain why she broke her promise, but unfortunately when she met Nevada again Nevada is a jerk to her and doesn't want to hear her explanations. You can feel Yardley's pain and she is really eager to explain herself to Nevada. The story is really touching. The book is well written and I enjoyed reading it. The plot of the story will entice you to never stop reading until the last page because you will want to know why Yardley broke her promise to Nevada.
